Creedal Hymn for Eastertide

In One True God We All Believe

8 8 8  8 8 8 and alleluias

Text by Walter P. Snyder, 1957-
Is 43:1-7; John 1:1-4, 14; Ro 8:14; 2 Cor 4:13

Suggested tune: Lasst uns erfreuen
“Geistliche Kirchengesäng,” Cologne, 1623

In one true God we all believe,
Father, eternal, almighty —
   Our Creator, loving Maker.
He providentially provides
All that we need for breath and life;
   Answers our prayers; takes up our cares.
   From Him blessing flows unending. Alleluia!

We all believe in Christ the Son,
Lord Jesus, truly God and man —
   Born of Mary by the Spirit;
Suffer’d that sinful man He’d save;
Endured grim death on cross, then grave;
   Rose the Third Day and ascended,
   Where, from heav’n, shall come to judge all. Alleluia!

The Holy Ghost, our Comforter,
Proceeds from Father and the Son —
   Voice of prophets and apostles;
Baptizes, strengthens, gives new life;
Defends the Church in times of strife;
   Calls the nations by the Gospel;
   Leads believers home to heaven. Alleluia!

All praise, O risen Christ, we bring
To You, our death-destroying King!
   Alleluia! Alleluia!
To God the Father equal praise,
And God the Holy Ghost we raise!
   Alleluia! Alleluia!
   Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
