How Can I Help?

LCMS World ReliefYou don’t have to be part of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod in order to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina through LCMS World Relief and Human Care. This branch of the Synod is actively soliciting donations, working with Thrivent Financial Services for Lutherans for matching funds, providing information about current and future aid operations, offering bulletin inserts to interested people, and showing a short video from Director Matthew Harrison. They’ve also begun compiling a list of potential housing providers.

You can visit the main World Relief page. Links include Thrivent and the video from the Rev. Harrison at the Mercy Network as well as a link button for online contributions is provided. Contact information to volunteer for service in the storm-damaged area or to receive displaced families is also available.

Locally, Saint Paul Lutheran High School — including the Saint Paul Institute for Education — and various area congregations are talking together about the possibility of receiving displaced families, especially to provide haven for homeless church workers and to open the doors of our schools to students from the New Orleans Lutheran High School and various area Lutheran parochial schools.

The doors of many hearts are open; now we wait for more opportunities to reach out and to invite in.
